What computer would you need for your online course?

Actually, nothing fancy. You just need a PC with:

• Pentium 500MHZ or higher
• 128MB RAM or higher
• Windows 2000, XP, 2003
• Minimum 800x600 screen resolution with minimum 256 colors
• Minimum 56K modem connection; broadband (256 kbps or higher) connection recommended
• Sound card with speaker or headphones, which we strongly recommend

Same with your browser. You can use the Internet browser that came with your PC:

• Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher. Because CALnook launches in a pop-up window, please disable any pop-up blocking software.
• Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher.
• Javascript, DHTML and cookies must be enabled.
• Macromedia Flash Player 8.0. Most Internet Explorer (IE) 5.5 and higher has this player already installed. It allows for animation, simulations, and audio without significantly enlarging footprint. If Flash is not installed or you have a version 7 or lower, there is a one-step, one-time download directly from the Macromedia Web site. A dialog box will inform you of download or upgrade requirements. Download Flash. Estimated download time: 1 minute on a 56K modem.

Once you sign-in, we will send a Student ID cookie and several session cookies to the computer you’re using. These cookies will save your preferences, including your simulation preferences. They are also required for answering course questions and tracking student progress; and deleted each time you close the browser.

Some Notes:

• Netscape, Firefox, and AOL browsers are not supported.
• If you have a firewall or cookie management software, please allow www.CALnook.com as a trusted site.
• We do not recommend or support installation of the Yahoo toolbar included in the Flash download from the Macromedia site.

A few more things and you’ll be up and running.

Expect the Following:

• An average of 8MB download per course for HTML courses. This varies
depending on the course you’re taking.
• An average of 30MB download per course for Business Skills video courses (each 20 minute course requires about 50MB).

More Notes:

• 15 MB hard disk space required for system files.
• Installation time will vary based on your connection speed, network
traffic, and other factors.
• You must remain connected to the Internet for the duration of the
installation process.
• Personal Web Server (PWS) must be turned off to view downloaded
courses.
